Spinning a Yarn
Tom Lord took us back in time by "Spinning a Yarn - Craven’s Lost Wood Sheep". His talk was on Wednesday, 4th February 2026. Tom included this Youtube clip within his talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUg2RdIbcao&t=18s It was filmed at Winskill and is an excellent demonstration, with the evidence, of the development of field systems in our local upland farms.

Anne Read M.B.E. 1943-2025
It is with much sadness that we announce the death of our former President, Anne Read M.B.E. Anne became our President in 2015 but she had been involved with the Trust since the early 1970s after she came to live in the area with her husband, Peter, when he took up the position of Director of Music at Giggleswick School. Her professional skills as a librarian were soon utilised by the Trust when she was tasked with the setting up of the Museum of North Craven Life. Anne’s exc

Golden find from Grassington at Skipton Museum
What is a gold lunula? A gold lunula is a type of Bronze Age collar or necklace named after its crescent moon shape. The culture of making gold lunulas was believed to have started in Ireland and the majority of known examples have been found there. Little is known for certain about them, so they are still quite mysterious objects. Read full report here .
